About artist: Malevich Kazimir
Kazimir Malevich (1878 - 1935) - avant-gardist, the founder of a new art direction - Suprematism.
The most important painting of this direction is "Black Square", drawn in 1913. The artist has stated his principles in the brochure - manifest "From Cubism to Suprematism. New picturesque realism".
Malevich was born in Kiev, Imperial Russia (now Ukraine). He started to study to draw in the same place. He has studied at the Drawing School, Kiev (1895-1896), MUZhVZ (Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture) (1904-1905), and the studio of Rerberg, Moscow (1905-1910).
His first known under catalogues participation in the exhibition of the Moscow Company of Artists has taken place in 1907. The were Kandinsky's works except the Malevich's paintings. There were also paintings by other artists of the beginning of the century, looking for new style in painting.
Since 1910 the artist constantly participated in exhibitions, including such exhibitions as "Jack of Diamonds", "Donkey's Tail", "Union of Youth", "The Salon of Independents", "Der Blaue Reiter", "Tramway B", "0,10" (Zero-ten).
He has designed the first Suprematist sketches for the costumes for the opera "Victory over the Sun" (1913).
After revolution of 1917 Malevich has been elected chairman of Art section of the Moscow Union of soldier's deputies. He developed the project of creation of National academy of arts, was the commissioner on protection of ancient monuments and a member of the Commission on protection of art values of the Kremlin. He has written theoretical work "About new systems in art". He was supervisor in National Art School in Vitebsk together with Chagall. Participated in exhibitions.
Malevich has designed Mayakovsky's play Mystery Buff, directed by Meyerhold (1918). He founded the UNOVIS group (Affirmers of New Art) in 1920.
In 1922 has finished the manuscript "Suprematism. The world as pointlessness or eternal rest".
After moving from Vitebsk Malevich has headed (with 1923) the GINKhUK (State Institute for Artistic Culture) and has taught at VKhUTEMAS (High State Artistic and Theatrical Workshops). He worked on designs for ceramics and architectural models (from 1923).
The artist, strangely enough, occupied many responsible posts in the Soviet Union, but has been arrested by same authority. Subsequently has been exempted. The artist even managed to participate in several exhibitions. He has died in 1935 after heavy illness.
And though "Black Square" is the main painting of the artist, he liked to draw in bright paints: red, yellow, green, sated dark blue - primary colors of his paintings. Kazimir Malevich searched for itself and through realistic painting, and through impressionism. He also tried new receptions of the contemporaries - futuristic and cubic.
So his picturesque heritage is bright examples of creative innovation of the beginning of the twentieth century. And after a century the paintings by Kazimir Malevich and his theoretical system have the big art value, which grows in the course of time. Museums and auctions all over the world think the paintings by Kazimir Malevich as pearls of the collections.
Therefore we are very glad to offer you lithograph from the painting by Kazimir Malevich "Shadow" (Cardboard, gouache, mixed techniques, 1929), taking place in the private collection in Moscow, Russia.
